As Russia pushes forward with its military invasion of Ukraine, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on Thursday announced it will shield Ukrainians in the U.S. from deportation by granting them temporary protected status.

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas created an 18-month Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program for Ukrainians who have lived in the U.S. since March 1, allowing eligible people to apply for work permits and deportation protections.
